Anderson speaks his mind

James Anderson has spoken his mind when it comes to test cricket believing that there is still a passion for the five day game, despite the release of recent reports that suggest otherwise.

James Anderson insists there is still a love for test cricket

Currently one of England’s greatest players, James Anderson is committed to ensuring that test cricket is well preserved. He will be a huge influence on England especially as they will need to perfect and promote the format, but confirms that he is up for the challenge.

And it will be a Challenge, the shorter T20 matches are currently proving to be more popular in cricket circles and trying to make test cricket just as popular could prove to be an uphill battle.

Speaking of his own passions for test Cricket James Anderson said:

“My heart is with playing Test cricket for England so that is what I’ll concentrate on doing for the foreseeable future. There is a slight worry (over test cricket) with the domestic T20 competitions doing so well.  But speak to players and there is a still a passion to play Test cricket. It’s a real test of someone’s character and skill, to perform in this form of the game.”

He went on to add that the game still very much excites him. He has a love for it and makes efforts to prioritise it in his head and in his heart. The thirty three year old also insists that he isn’t the only person the world that feels so passionate about test cricket. He hopes that it isn’t just the players that feel the way he does, but fans too. It is important that cricket fans do keep supporting the game as it the only way that it will really flourish.

So far in South Africa record numbers have turned out to witness the goings on in England’s test against South Africa which can only be seen as a positive.

Currently leading the series with a 1-0 lead, England have a great footing against the hosting team; they are in a superb position. Going on to win the series against South Africa, the world’s number one side, would be a huge boost for England and their relatively inexperienced squad. A win would also promote test cricket in the greatest fashion to England’s fans.

Speaking of how a win would impact the squad, and providing an honest reflection on England’s performances, Anderson went on to say:

“It would be massive for us, especially with the journey this team has gone on in a short space of time, we’ve shown glimpses of being a world-class team but we have also been very inconsistent. To get a win out here, somewhere South Africa have dominated for a long period of time and a big reason why they are number one, it would be huge for us. We are in an amazing position. To be ahead in this series with two games to go is an exciting place to be and we’re really looking forward to seeing it out.”
