Annie Power will most definitely be one to watch out for at the Cheltenham festival in two weeks’ time. The eight year old chestnut mare has had an astonishing career so far having won thirteen out of fifteen starts.
Annie Power is high on the list of favourites for the Champion Hurdle. Trainer, Willie Mullins, believes that the extended two miles of the Stan James Champion Hurdle will be suited to Annie Power.
Speaking of his intentions for the eight year old Mullins said:
“We have got to supplement Annie Power for the Stan James Champion Hurdle, Vroum Vroum Mag looks a possible for the OLBG Mares’ Hurdle and, if that is the case, I would think Annie will run in the Champion.”
“Going back two years, Annie Power was quite a short price for the Champion Hurdle. We thought she was a Champion Hurdle horse that year but we obviously had Hurricane Fly and a few others in the race. I don’t think the trip will be a problem for her. We have six horses here who, if they were with other yards, would be aimed at the Champion Hurdle and she is as quick as any of them.”
The Champion trainer believes that it might actually be easier for Annie Power to race over two miles with the pace at which they will be going.
Mullins also stated that it is likely she will wear a hood in order for her to be an easier ride in the race. He said that she will probably need not have it, but pointed out that it will cost nothing to wear and will be beneficial if it makes her easier to manage.
