The current leaders of the Premier League, Arsenal, showed Borussia Dortmund how to dominate in the Champions League as the Gunners played a clinical match to grasp a one goal victory. The only goal scorer in the game proved too much for Borussia Dortmund to handle as Aaron Ramsey continues his impeccable form and places his team at the top of their Group F table. Ramsey has shocked the Premier League recently as he has hit a sudden burst of form this season, and he has taken that form into the Champions League.
Before this season started, Aaron Ramsey was never really considered to be a player to look out for or someone that made other teams tremble. However, the Welshman has hit form this year in both the Premier League and the Champions League for Arsenal, and has other teams frightened to play against him. So far, in all competitions this season Aaron Ramsey has managed to score 11 goals, the same amount that he has scored in the past 4 years. Although, last night’s performance was certainly not a one man show as Arsenal totally outplayed Borussia Dortmund from start to finish.
This week was supposed to be the week that Arsenal started to go downhill, but instead they comfortably defeated Liverpool in the Premier League and have now triumphed over last year’s Champions League runners-up. The Gunners are finally starting to be considered as title contenders in both the Premier League and Champions League. The trio of Aaron Ramsey, Olivier Giroud and the newly signed Mesut Özil are proving too much to deal with as they top the European tournament’s Group F with only 2 Group matches remaining.
Elsewhere in the Champions League, Napoli, who are on the same points as Arsenal but trailing on goal difference, defeated Marseille 3-2. Chelsea’s new signing Samuel Eto’o grabbed two goals with Demba Ba scoring one of his own to win convincingly 3-0 over FC Schalke 04. Celtic lost 1-0 against Ajax but their manager, Neil Lennon, insists they can still reach the knock out stages whilst Barcelona did manage to reach those stages with a 3-1 win over AC Milan. Manchester City secured their place in the knock out stages whilst their rivals, the Red Devils, only managed a draw against Real Sociedad.
