Arsenal have managed to move up to second in their group table after their extremely impressive performance against Galatasaray last night at the Emirates where the Gunners won 4-1. The new Arsenal signing Danny Welbeck had the best match in an Arsenal shirt yet. He managed to grab his first Champions League goal for Arsenal as well as grabbing the first professional hat-trick of his senior career. It was unsurprising that Arsenal managed to win by such a large margin as Arsene Wenger put out a heavily attacking side, which included Welbeck, Sanchez, Santi Cazorla and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Arsenal’s Danny Welbeck scored the first two goals in the opening half an hour against the Turkish side before Alexis Sanchez curled in a goal before half time. Welbeck then scored a fourth for his team in the 52nd minute before Burak Yilmaz got Galatasaray a consolation penalty goal, which also saw Gunners goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny get sent off for fouling in the area. Arsenal have now jumped to second in their group with one victory and three points to their name, whilst Borussia Dortmund have won both of their Champions League matches this season and are top of the group.
Arsene Wenger, who celebrated his 18th year at Arsenal as manager yesterday, commented on Danny Welbeck after his performance last night, “I knew he was quick but he’s electric. Hopefully that hat-trick will help him gain confidence. It always helps to know that you have a good chance to play in the next game. What’s good for me is that his link play is good as well. His teamwork and his work rate is at the level of the team. His attitude is very positive – he’s a team player, not just a finisher. He has learned that on the flank and he wants to help the team.”
