Arsenal are hoping to sign Lucas Perez Martinez striker from Deportivo La Coruna in a 17 million deal. They are not the only ones interested in the star and are said to be aiming to pip Everton to the Post.
Merseyside based Everton were close to signing the star but because of Arsenal interest there could be a bidding war for the talented striker.
Everton have been publically interested in twenty seven year old Lucas for some time, they had previously suggested that he may be the right guy to support Romelu Lukaku up front, on their team.
The toffees remain hopeful but reports coming from Spain suggest that Arsenal are certainly in the running to sign the player.
Having set his sights on Lucas, Ronald Koeman, manager at Everton, could end up bitterly disappointed. However, there are other players at the forefront of his mind. Everton are said to have shown interest in Napoli’s Manolo Gabbiadini. Koeman is said to have his mind made up about just who he is looking for. It is almost certain that they will bring in another striker.
Last week Arsenal boss Wenger went public with his plans to ensure that fans were made aware of his intentions to spend plenty in this year’s transfer window. In the past the long serving manager has been heavily criticised for not recruiting enough. Fans know that he won’t to lose out on signing Lucas.
With the transfer window due to close in a matter of days there’s not much time to contemplate the options. It will be interesting to see just where Lucas Perez Martinez ends up at the end of this month.
