Arsene Wenger has fought back Criticism from Gary Neville following the Arsenal boss’ decisions during the transfer window. Neville believes Arsene Wenger has made fatal errors this season, already. Fans will merely have to watch and see if Neville’s predictions of a bad season for Arsenal come true.
Arsene Wenger has choice words for the Sky commentator and has retaliated against Neville’s expert opinions. Neville has made it clear that he believes the reds could be in trouble in the premiership. Wenger hasn’t signed a defensive midfielder this season in favour of wide midfielders and there are concerns that this could affect the team throughout the season.
Prior to Arsenals fixture against Liverpool Gary Neville aired concerns over Arsene Wenger’s team. The former United player didn’t criticise Arsenals boss without referring to the respect he has for the manager:
“I’ve got great respect for Arsenal as a football club. Arsene Wenger’s job is absolutely amazing, but I just cannot get my head around why he would not sign players of power to assist these talented players that you’ve got to enable them to win the league.”
He went on to add:
“You sign (Mikel) Arteta and turn him into a midfield player, (Tomas) Rosicky signs as a wide player and you turn him into a midfield player, (Aaron) Ramsey plays midfield even though he’s a wide midfield player. It’s a continual string of errors. It’s the one big black mark that I’ve got over Arsene Wenger these last 10 years. Why he hasn’t identified the issue with these types of players in central midfield because they cannot win the league with these types of players. It can’t happen.”
On the one hand Neville speaks with an insight into the game, and on the other he goes on to really criticise Arsene Wenger’s techniques. Speaking of Wenger personally Neville said:
“I think it’s arrogance, I really do. To think that you’re not going to adapt your team to change to impact on another team’s strengths. It’s either naive or arrogance because they keep losing this way.”
Arsene Wenger was defended in the studio by Thierry Henry who said:
“I don’t think its arrogance, I think its belief. Arsene and the players believe they can outplay teams.”
Arsene Wenger casually shrugged off the criticism, but retaliated with a fair statement, in a post-match interview following Arsenals Draw against Liverpool:
“I don’t know what that has to do with arrogance, I just try to do my job and I leave it to other people to assess my work. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion. I could prove to you that it’s not necessarily right but let’s not go into that debate. When you don’t win you’re wrong. But I think I have enough experience and intelligence to know when it’s right and when it’s wrong.”
