Australian Open 2015 so far

For the past five days, we have been enjoying some wonderful tennis, have had some big-name clashes already and some shock results in the Australian Open 2015, and here’s an update of the tournament so far. After a successful warm-up tournament for Britain’s own Andy Murray, where he won all three of his singles matches in the Hopman Cup, the 27 year old has continued his form in Melbourne. The Scot has eased his way into the last 16, winning every match so far in straight sets, and will meet Grigor Dimitrov in the next round, who struggled in a 5 set victory against Marcos Baghdatis in the third round.

Roger Federer suffers shock exit in the Australian Open 2015

After having two years of not claiming a Grand Slam title, 4 time Australian Open winner Roger Federer was feeling confident in this year’s Melbourne tournament. However, the Swiss maestro was shockingly eliminated from the tournament in the third round by Andreas Seppi in a four set thriller. Another surprise in the tournament was when there was a big-name clash in the second round between former world number one players, Caroline Wozniacki and Victoria Azarenka. The Belarussian Azarenka was unseeded for the tournament after missing the majority of 2014 due to injury, but she knocked out 8th seed Wozniacki, who believes the Australian Open is her “cursed” tournament.

Seventh seed Tomas Berdych has managed to reach the fourth round of the Australian Open 2015 in his hunt for a first Grand Slam title; the Czech 29 year old is set to meet Bernard Tomic in the next round. Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard has stayed on fantastic form in order to fly into the last 16 of the tournament with a dominant straight sets triumph over Caroline Garcia; the 20 year old will play Irina-Camelia Begu. Maria Sharapova and Simona Halep have both reached the fourth round, whilst 5th seed Ana Ivanovic was shockingly eliminated in the opening round of the Australian Open 2015. Rafael Nadal has just defeated Dudi Sela in straight sets to reach the fourth round.
