Barcelona triumphed in the first leg of the Champions league semi-final last night, with Messi pulling out all the stops, in the second half, to see his team race ahead towards the final. Added time saw Lionel Messi set his team mate, Neymar, up to score a goal securing Barcelona’s progression.
There is no one player that makes a team but Barcelona player Lionel Messi is a cut above the rest. The Argentinian star made headlines with his 76th and 77th goal of the Champions League. Not only is he, arguably, the best player in the world right now, but he has gone down as one of the top scorers in the history of the champions league too.
The first fifteen minutes of the match saw Bayern Munich Goal Keeper, Manuel Neuer, show off his skills. From the off, Barcelona were on the attack, leaving Bayern with no choice but to concentrate their efforts on a defensive game play. Bayern coach Pep Guardiola made the effort to hold off Barcelona’s attack by ensuring he played three of his team in a defence formation.
Bayern, held off the home team in the first half and finished before half time with a draw. Following the half time break Barcelona again forced Bayern to play defensively and finally Messi scored the goal that the fans had been waiting for. With just thirteen minutes to go both Dani Alves and then Suarez ensured Messi got his foot on the ball, to score the all-important goal putting Barcelona in the lead. Just two minutes later Messi secured the lead for Barcelona, providing the crowds with the show they came to watch.
The match went into injury time and just to prove they were the better team, curtesy of Neymar, Barcelona finished up with yet another goal.
