Brumbies defeat British and Irish Lions

The Brumbies have ended the British and Irish Lions’ unbeaten run on this tour as they hold on to a 14-12 victory despite what looked like a possible Lions comeback. This match was very much full of penalties as there was only one try throughout the whole game. There was an early try in 5 minutes when Tevita Kuridrani burst through the Lions defence to give the Brumbies a 5-0 lead. The try could not be converted but a further 3 points was added on soon after when Jesse Mogg kicked the ball home from a penalty.

The British and Irish Lions finally got their team on the score sheet when Stuart Hogg booted a penalty in between the sticks to go into the half-time break with a score of 8-3. Soon after the teams ran back out onto the field, Mogg scored his second penalty to extend the Brumbies lead even further to 11-3. Mogg was on form and was punishing the Lions with his boot as he scored yet another penalty to give the Brumbies an unassailable 14-3 lead.

Just when the Lions looked out of the game and as though they had given up, they got a penalty which Hogg managed to simply put away for another 3 points on the board. The introduction of Owen Farrell gave the Lions a confidence boost as he had a massive impact on the game.

Farrell wasted no time, scoring an instant penalty as soon as he came on reducing the point gap to 5 points at 14-9. The Englishman scored yet another penalty to give the Lions true hope that they could take the lead for the first time in the game. However, the Brumbies managed to keep the Lions back and after a nervy finishing 10 minutes, the Lions were defeated for the first time on their 2013 tour.
