Last night’s Champions League match proved very exciting to watch, it saw German giants Bayern Munich and La Liga leaders Barcelona sail through to the semi-finals of the biggest tournament in club football. It was the second leg for both teams and they were going into their matches in different scenarios. Barcelona were entering into their quarter-final against Paris Saint Germain with a 3-1 lead from the first leg, whilst Bayern Munich were in a tough position after they surprisingly lost 3-1 to Porto in their first encounter.
Barcelona carried their dominant form in their first leg, through to the first half of their second leg against PSG. Neymar managed to score two goals within the first 34 minutes of the match giving them a half-time aggregate lead of 5-1. Barcelona decided to calm down in the second half and take the 5-1 victory comfortably. However, in the other match, Bayern Munich were relentless against Porto. Pep Guardiola’s men were looking for revenge for the first leg loss and they certainly found it, triumphing 6-1 on the night, and winning 7-4 on aggregate, booking their place in the Champions League semi-final.
Now that Bayern Munich and Barcelona have earned their place in the semi-final, there are two more places to be claimed, with four teams playing tonight. Defending champions Real Madrid are hosting rivals Atletico Madrid after the first leg was a stalemate 0-0 draw. In the other match, Juventus travel to Monaco with a 1-0 advantage after the first leg, in an attempt to seal their first Champions League semi-final spot since 2003. Bayern Munich and Barcelona will see who they will play in the semi-final after the draw is made on Friday.
