Champions League begins tonight!

It’s the night that many football fans all over the world have been waiting for as the Champions League finally returns and begins with a thriller of a night. One of the world’s toughest club football competitions the Champions League has been absent now since May and football fans have been itching for it to come back, and that day has come. It will certainly be worth the wait though as we shall witness Europe’s best football clubs compete as Manchester United, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid all play in one nights worth of football.

Gareth Bale returns to Champions League play with Real Madrid

Real Madrid’s world record signing Gareth Bale, who cost the Spanish giants £85.3 million, is planned to start for the team in all white after he had a dream start scoring in his first match for his new team at the weekend. It looks to be the game of the night as Real Madrid take on Turkish stars, Galatasaray, in a tough battle for both teams. Madrid have the pace and skill of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, but that will contested by the experience and class of Didier Drogba and Wesley Sneijder.

Last season’s winners Bayern Munich host CSKA Moscow as the German kings will hope to get their 2013/14 Champions League off to a flying start with a win. However, Moscow are tough competition who work well as a team and can easily cause an upset. PSG travel away to Greece to play Olympiakos as the Ligue 1 French Champions hope their new star, Edinson Cavani will shine in Europe’s best footballing competition.

Manchester United and Manchester City do not have as tough opponents tonight. The Red Devils were very lucky in the draw as they don’t have any of the big names in their group, but the same can’t be said for Man City who have Bayern Munich and CSKA Moscow in their group. Manchester United host Bayer Leverkusen whilst the blue side of the City travels to the Czech Republic to play the lesser known team, Plzen.
