David de Gea, was said to be set for a transfer to the Spanish club, Real Madrid, just prior to the closing of the transfer window. But now it seems the 24 year old may have missed out by literally a minute as there is a fumble over paperwork!
David de Gea, looks set to miss out on the deal as there is confusion over who was in the wrong and just who is to blame for the ‘missing’ papers. Manchester United insist that they sent all of the relevant paperwork on time and that they have the evidence to back up their claim. The reds have even said that Real Madrid has admitted that they are at fault for the issue.
Both Clubs are sure to make an appeal to FIFA in order to still allow the transfer but rules are rules and there is a big possibility that the move will not be granted by officials.
In direct conflict with the statement released by Manchester United Spanish football expert, Guillem Balague has spoken of the incident:
“La Liga has confirmed that the documents have not reached them on time and, as it stands, the transfer is not going to take place. Last night, the head of the league went on national radio and spoke. He said of course they can appeal but he didn’t think there was any way that La Liga would change their mind.”
He went on to add:
Everything was done and everyone was waiting. David de Gea was at his girlfriend’s house in Madrid, Florentino Perez; (real madrid president) was at the Santiago Bernabeu. Navas was there too and was waiting to pass a medical, and everything was signed and sent to Manchester. But the information is that the documentation didn’t come back from Manchester United on time. Reports say the De Gea paperwork came in at one minute past midnight in Spain and therefore did not reach La Liga on time, so the transfer is not going to happen.”
Clearly, Balague, is pointing the finger at the English club.
Now, because David de Gea didn’t sign a new contract with Manchester United, it looks as though he may stay there without any increase on his wage. United are accused of being relaxed about the confusion which is no surprise if they are not set to lose anything, aside from the money promised for the transfer, which isn’t something that they had anyway. No loss, no gain.
