England v Denmark preview

Tonight holds the first of four international friendlies that will prepare England for the upcoming World Cup 2014 tournament in Brazil. Denmark’s players will be travelling to the Wembley Stadium tonight to give England a good warm up for the world’s most watched sporting event that occurs every four years. England’s manager Roy Hodgson has recently revealed his 30-man squad for the Denmark game on Wednesday night, but that has already been hindered as Tottenham’s right back, Kyle Walker has been ruled out due to a groin injury.

England is in a tough World Cup 2014 group

This England v Denmark match is the first of four international friendlies over the next four months before England play in the Group Stages. Following tonight’s game, England will host Peru on 30th May before playing Ecuador and Honduras before the Group Stages in June. However, these friendlies may not even help too much with the Group Stages as England are in an extremely tough group. England are set to play against Italy, Uruguay and Costa Rica in the month of June and only if they finish in the top 2 of that group will they continue through to the next knock-out rounds.

Roy Hodgson has revealed a little bit more of his line-up for the Denmark game tonight as he had admitted that Leighton Baines will be rested and Ashley Cole or Luke Shaw is likely to start. The England manager commented, “It’s the right moment to look at one of, or both, Luke and Ashley. Unless we get an incredible number of injuries, Leighton won’t feature. All three of them want to play, but even with substitutions I can’t fit in three left-backs. The two I need to look at in an England shirt are Ashley and Luke.”

Ashley Cole has earned 106 caps for England whilst Luke Shaw could make his debut for England tonight at the age of 18 after impressing for his Premier League side Southampton. This match against Denmark will be the last time Roy Hodgson will see his team perform before he has to name his final squad that he will take to the World Cup 2014. Kick-off for England v Denmark tonight is at Wembley Stadium and will begin at 8:00pm.
