It’s crunch time for England and Roy Hodgson as they must prevail as the winners in the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers that are being played tonight and Tuesday. England must win against Montenegro tonight and then defeat Poland on Tuesday night to definitely qualify. Yet if they don’t, they will rely on other games in the Group H and how well Ukraine, Montenegro and Poland do. Recent performances from England have not been too convincing from a team which is playing very inconsistently, so they need to find some form and keep it.
In the previous match England played, they were suffering from injuries as their top strikers were absent such as Wayne Rooney and Daniel Sturridge; Danny Welbeck was absent due to a controversial ban. However, it looks as though most of the squad, including the inform Sturridge, are all fully fit for tonight’s crucial match giving England a better chance. There is one injury in the form of Ashley Cole and Hodgson has called up Arsenal left back Kieran Gibbs as a replacement, despite the fact that Leighton Baines is likely to start.
England’s manager Roy Hodgson has set hopes high for tonight’s match as he has claimed to be impressed with his strikers, and too the rest of the squad. The Englishman commented, “It’s nice to see Daniel Sturridge come into the squad and be so comfortable at an early stage. It’s also nice to see him strike up a good relationship with the more senior players he’s been partnering this week. It’s not only the strikers I’ve been impressed by. The whole squad has had a very good week’s training.”
England currently leads the Group H table with 16 points, but only by one point with Ukraine and Montenegro closely followed on 15. Poland are capable of a miraculous comeback, but it is unlikely as they must win both of their remaining games and rely on the teams above them to lose all of their matches. It is impossible for Moldova and San Marino to qualify, so they have nothing to play for apart from their pride. England are playing Montenegro tonight and will play their final qualifier against Poland on Tuesday night.
