Eoin Morgan insists that England are onto a winner

Eoin Morgan, England’s One day captain, insists that the way England are playing is a winning method. Despite losses in ODI matches to South Africa, England are currently displaying a somewhat aggressive manner and their methods are not expected to change.

Eoin Morgan says England are still learning

Referring to the way England have been playing one day cricket Eoin Morgan said:

“Playing that way is a winning formula; it’s just a matter of getting better at it and being more consistent.”

Insisting that it was all a learning curve he added:

“We’re still in the learning phase of our development.”

Since a shameful World Cup campaign last year, a new pragmatic approach to one day cricket has seen England win in series against New Zealand and Pakistan, they also narrowly missed out on victory against world champions Australia.

However, in South Africa Morgan’s team seem to be giving wickets away to the opposition.

Former England batsman Geoffrey Boycott believes that England have come on in leaps and bounds since the World Cup, but insists that the team still have a lot to learn.

Boycott openly disagrees with Morgan and has said that England can’t just keep playing one way, especially as it clearly isn’t working for them at this moment in time. He knows that if you are going to be perceived as a top side then you have to have tactics and think through any situations.

The former batsman’s opinions are similar to England’s coach Trevor Bayliss. Both experts believe that positivity is key. The Australian said:

“We’ve batted well for six to eight months, but sometimes it comes back to bite you when you play like we do. We do talk about the need to be positive, but at different times we do need to change gear. Hopefully, a few of our guys noticed how AB de Villiers paced his innings today. Overall, we’re very happy because South Africa are a long way ahead of us in terms of ODIs played and centuries scored. To compete with a team like this and come close to winning the series was a great effort.”
