On Saturday, in the 5th round of the FA Cup, football fans witnessed Arsenal meet Hull, Reading Vs West Brom, Watford played Leeds and Bournemouth came up against Everton.
Arsenal and Hull made things difficult for each other, as they played so defensively neither team conceded a goal in their bid for the FA Cup.
Eldin Jakopovic had his work cut out for him as Arsenal made attempts to secure a lead against their opponants. But they failed to do so following an outstanding performance from Hull’s goal keeper. Jakopovic saved no less than 11 goals fired to him from the home side. The two sides will now face a replay to decide who will progress to the quarter finals.
Reading took a step toward the FA Cup as they beat West Brom with a 3-1 victory. The result was somewhat surprising as the first goal scored came from West Brom. Reading then turned the match around and hit back in excellent form.
Watford beat Leeds with a score of 1-0. The victory was handed to them after Twenty four year old, Scott Wootton scored an own goal. Leeds midfielder’s mistake launched his opponents into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup for the first time since 2007.
Bournemouth lost out to their visitors when strikes made by Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku secured a 2-0 win for Everton. They will now join Reading through to the quarter- finals of the FA Cup for the fourth time in five seasons.
Yesterday there were goals everywhere as Blackburn faced West Ham, Tottenham were up against Crystal Palace and Chelsea played Manchester City.
West Ham beat Blackburn 5-1. Two of the five goals came from Dimitri Payet as West Ham fought their way into the FA Cup quarter-finals against the Championship side.
Tottenham lost out on a pass to the quarter-finals as Crystal Palace beat their opponents 1-0. Martin Kelly secured Crystal Palace’s place in the final eight.
Following a display of poor form at the beginning of the Premiership this season, Chelsea beat Manchester City 5-0. There is some controversy over the strength of the side that they faced as Man City didn’t play their strongest players. Chelsea were pitted against younger up and coming faces from Manchester City. The decision from Man City put pressure on Chelsea to perform but it also left the away side with what could be seen to be a disadvantage.
However, following the 5th round result Chelsea are now faced with the task of carrying on through the tournament. The question being asked now is could they actually go on to win the FA Cup?
Tonight Shrewsbury takes on Manchester United in their bid for the FA Cup. Arsenal look set to replay Hull on Tuesday, (23rd Feb 2016).
