Felipe Massa and Ferrari are destined to part ways at the end of the season as rival Formula 1 team Williams were quick to capture the talented Brazilian driver before any other team could. Massa is planned to partner current Williams driver Valtteri Bottas and will replace Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado, who hopes to replace Kimi Raikkonen at Lotus. Maldonado does have the option to go to Lotus, but he also has the choices of other Formula 1 teams such as Force India or Sauber. Felipe Massa has been signed on a three year contract deal with Williams.
Brazilian Felipe Massa will leave Ferrari after having a lengthy 8 year spell with the Italian team, in which time he managed to capture a total of 11 Grand Prix titles. Williams dominated Formula 1 for much of the 1980s and 1990s, but have fallen out of form allowing Ferrari and particularly Red Bull to dominate the most recent years. Therefore Williams, who have only gained one point in the whole of this season, have been looking for experience, in the form of Felipe Massa, in attempt to get back on track and into winning form, like a couple of decades ago.
Felipe Massa was excited when he commented on his new Formula 1 team, “When I was a kid, I always dreamed of racing for Williams, Ferrari or McLaren and I’m glad to be signing with another icon of the sport. The team wants to grow. It is already a big team but they are really pushing hard to go back to what they were in the past. It is a team to fight for the championships and good results and I really want to be a part of it. I understand what they are doing to get stronger. I think we can be very successful and I believe it is the best choice compared to the other choices I had.”
