Frank Lampard signs one year deal with Chelsea

The long-time Chelsea central midfielder, Frank Lampard, has signed another one-year deal with the club he loves, Chelsea. There was speculation that the England international was not going to receive a new contract and that he would leave this summer, but after a fantastic record breaking season, Roman Abrahamovic has offered Lampard another one-year contract deal. It was only yesterday when Lampard captained Chelsea and led Rafael Benitez’s side to the Europa League victory, which without a doubt helped Abramovich make the decision to sign him on again.

Even though Rafael Benitez has secured a Champions League place in next season’s tournament and won this season’s Europa League for Chelsea, he is still going to be leaving the club at the end of the season. It is believed that Abramovich is welcoming back to Stamford Bridge Jose Mourinho, who was at Chelsea during their most successful reign of the twentieth century, whilst Frank Lampard was there, although it is not yet officially confirmed.

Frank Lampard and Jose Mourinho to reunite?

Earlier in the month, Frank Lampard revealed that he thinks it would be “great” if Jose Mourinho is to return, so is it possible Lampard’s stay is linked to Mourinho returning? Chelsea signed Lampard in 2001 for £11 million and since then he has been extremely successful winning three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups, a Champions League and just yesterday a Europa League. He has scored 17 goals for Chelsea this season which is his most amount of goals scored in a season since the 2009-2010 season where he netted  27 times.

Frank Lampard, who broke Chelsea’s all-time highest goal scorer record last week scoring 203 goals (one more than Bobby Tambling’s previous 202 goal record), commented, “I’m absolutely delighted. Everybody knows I always maintained the dream to stay. I want to thank Mr Abramovich for making the dream a reality. I love this club, the staff, the players and especially the supporters. We’ve been talking for ages, and even though it went on for quite a period it was always amicable.”
