England‘s all-time leading run-scorer across all formats, Kevin Pietersen has been told that he will no longer be involved in any of the future plans with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). This means that he will not be included in the international England cricket team, despite him originally being named in the provisional 30-man squad for the upcoming World Twenty20 tournament in March in Bangladesh. The announcement came as quite a shock to the English cricket fans after limited-overs coach Ashley Giles said he was a “million pound asset.”
After England were whitewashed 5-0 in the most recent Ashes campaign in Australia in December 2013 and January 2014, Kevin Pietersen admitted that he was fully committed to regaining the Ashes Urn in 2015. Yet, the ECB did not want the South African born Englishman to play for his international side anymore, so he won’t get a chance to play for England in the future. The controversial cricket player has impressive stats in all of the cricket formats earning a total of 277 caps, claiming 13,797 runs and grabbing an impressive 32 centuries.
The Englishman Kevin Pietersen, who is classed by many as one of the greatest English cricket players in more recent times, commented after he was informed he wouldn’t play for England again, “I will continue to play but deeply regret that it won’t be for England. Playing cricket for my country has been an honour. Every time I pulled on the England shirt was a moment of huge pride for me and that is something that will live with me forever. Although I am obviously very sad the incredible journey has come to an end, I’m also hugely proud of what we, as a team, have achieved over the past nine years. I believe I have a great deal still to give as a cricketer.”
