Kevin Pietersen is unlikely to ever play International Cricket again

Kevin Pietersen, and any future involvement he could have in playing for England, will be a matter on the inventory at this morning’s live press conference at Lords. Andrew Strauss is likely to discuss the matter and outline his intentions for the man who achieved his best ever score playing for Surrey on Monday with 355 Not Out.

Kevin Pietersen expresses his desire to play for England

Kevin Pietersen’s record score will certainly have given Cricket fans ammunition as to why they believe, one of the sport’s most famous players should be allowed to play for England. But can his past behaviour be brushed aside in light of recent events?

Pietersen was dropped from England back in 2012 following reports that he sent disparaging text messages to South African players, regarding the captain of England at the time. Given that Pietersen is a born South African, this action implied that his loyalties did not lie with his fellow team mates in the England squad. His behaviour was clearly inappropriate and was rightfully deemed to be detrimental to Pietersen’s career. Following these events he was recalled to play for England but dropped again after the loss of the Ashes to Australia in 2014.

It’s no secret that Kevin Petersen has had a tense relationship with Strauss since the text message debacle. There are concerns that this will be held against Pietersen in the final decisions that will be made today. Strauss is already beginning to face a back log of criticism following his statements, but would a professional, with his own career in mind, really make this decision if he believed it would jeopardise England’s chances?

Either way, Pietersen’s International career is almost certainly over, and it isn’t something that the South African would have wished for. The 34 year old has been openly honest of his desire to play for England again:

“I’ve always said I’ve a burning desire to play for England again and I know there’s been a lot of change over the weekend. I’m desperate to play for England again, I want to play for England again and I want to play for England again soon.”
