Amir Khan has spoken of his impending fight against Mexican Saul Alvarez. The Brit thinks he has what it takes to beat his opponent despite the fact that he may not be the favourite.
Khan admits that if he can beat Alvarez. His admission will cause quite a stir within boxing circles. The former light-welterweight world champion has not been in the ring since May 2015 when he beat Chris Algieri.
Now officially classed as Middleweight, Khan, insisted that his fight against Alverez was the right thing for him at the moment. The twenty nine year old bravely stated:
“I want to be in the big fights with the big names. Alvarez I think is probably the biggest name in boxing right now. At first I thought he was too big for me but when I studied a few tapes, I thought you know what, I’ve got a good chance of beating him.”
Speaking of his past and how he is viewed ahead of his next big fight, Khan, went on to add:
“I’ve fought in Las Vegas three times but normally I’m top bill, this time I’m the underdog. I think that will push me on even more. People are going to be doubting me, people are thinking it’ll be an easy fight for Canelo but he’ll have his hands full.”
When Khan announced that he was going to be up against Alvarez, he said he received some shocked responses. The fact that everyone was so shocked will add to the air of excitement that surrounds the fight. The fight will be bigger as a direct result of other people’s reactions, which is always a good thing.
In a closing statement Khan said:
“What’s going to win the fight for me is my skills and my speed. I don’t think I can out-power Canelo. The only way I can beat him is my speed, skill and my techniques. I think it’s a 50-50 fight.”
It will certainly be interesting to see what the outcome is. Alvarez or Khan? Watch this space.
