Ferrari’s second driver Kimi Raikkonen believes that his team have significantly improved their car compared to last year after he drove the new vehicle on the third test day in Jerez. The Finnish driver re-joined Ferrari at the start of the 2014 season last year after leaving Lotus and had a disappointing first return with the team as he could only finish 12th in the drivers’ standing last year. However, it looks as though the 2015 season may go well for the 2007 Formula 1 World Champion as he seems happy with the improvements on the new car.
Kimi Raikkonen had his first test drive yesterday on the third day of testing, only after the number one Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel tested it on the first two days. Vettel has moved from Red Bull, where he won the Drivers’ Championship 3 times in the last 4 seasons, to Ferrari for the 2015 season after a poor season in 2014. Ferrari’s long term driver Fernando Alonso left the team at the end of last season in order to join McLaren, alongside Jenson Button. Mercedes are looking to have a repeat of last season as Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg dominated.
35 year old Kimi Raikkonen commented on the new car after his first test, “You usually know if a car is good or not, and this year is a completely different story to last year. The whole team has clearly done a very good job over the winter as it was a positive first day, with a lot of improvements in areas where we had difficulties. The atmosphere is very good within the team. It’s early days, but it’s great to see how good it is, how well people are working together, and with Sebastian we have a good relationship so we can push the team forward.”
