Jurgen Klopp has spoken of English football openly following the news that Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola intends to leave his current position at the end of the season. It is rumoured that the Spanish former footballer will make a move to England. Following the move, there is much speculation over where Guardiola could end up. Interest in the talented coach has been shown by both Manchester City and Manchester United.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, has spoken openly with regards to English football and says that the sheer number of fixtures could surprise the Spaniard.
Klopp insists that the number of games in England is the biggest difference between European football and what goes on here. The reds manager said that when he came here he didn’t know that there were two rounds in the semi-final of the capital one cup. His acquaintances in Germany thought that Liverpool had made the final after the first round. Klopp referred to them as idiots.
He went on to reference the FA Cup and the amount of game play involved in the tournament:
“In Germany, when you tell people about the FA Cup that if you draw you play again, they say ‘what?’. Here, you have penalties and extra time, but only after the second game. That’s the thing; it’s the number of games – football, football, football.”
Klopp is working away from Germany, his home country, for the first time and does have some positive feedback after his experience in the UK:
“What I can say about here is very positive, great country, great people, the food is much better than everybody said. Okay, the weather is not great – like everyone said.”
