As the fifth Grand Prix of the 2014 Formula 1 season is approaching, former world champion Nigel Mansell has publically admitted that he thinks Lewis Hamilton is close to perfection following his opening races. The current Mercedes driver has won the previous three Grand Prix’s of the season, after he was disqualified from the opening race in Australia. The top 2 finishing positions have been occupied by both Mercedes drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, for those three last races and the team have won every race so far this year as Rosberg was triumphant in the opening Grand Prix of the season.
The British Formula 1 driver, Lewis Hamilton is hoping to add to his 2008 Drivers Championship with another title this year, but it is early in the season and he faces tough competition. The Brit is currently 4 points behind his teammate, Nico Rosberg, in the title chase, but is a massive 34 points ahead of third place, Fernando Alonso. Even though there has only been four Grand Prix’s so far, this season is being completely dominated by Mercedes, whilst Red Bull, who have won the Constructors title for the past 3 years, are seriously struggling sitting 97 points behind Mercedes.
Nigel Mansell, the winner of the 1992 Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship, commented on Lewis Hamilton’s season so far, “He has been close to perfection, just brilliant. He has been given the freedom to express himself. When you get a few more wins under your belt, you get even more confidence and that gives you another half a second in your pocket. It doesn’t get any better than knowing you have a good car – it’s the most wonderful feeling.” The next Grand Prix is at the weekend as the Formula 1 drivers travel to Spain.
