Lions defeat New South Wales Waratahs

The British and Irish Lions are now fully warmed up and ready to go for the test against Australia after dominating the New South Wales Waratahs 17-47. The Loins scored five tries with four different people, which were all converted by Halfpenny and Farrell. Halfpenny also managed to score 4 penalties. The four try scorers were Jonny Sexton, Leigh Halfpenny (2 tries), Tom Croft and Jonathan Davies, whilst Tom Carter was the only person to score a try for the Waratahs.

The main action in the first half was when Tom Carter scored a try in-between two Loins tries from Jonny Sexton and Leigh Halfpenny to go into the half-time break with a score of 23-10. The Lions showed no mercy as the second half was just one way traffic scoring 24 points and only conceding 10 points which rounded off arguably, the performance of the tour so far from the Lions. The biggest loss of the game for the Lions was when Jamie Roberts limped off the field with just over 10 minutes remaining following a nasty leg injury.

Lions ready for first test against Australia

Manu Tuilagi is a great player for the British and Irish Lions but unfortunately he might miss the first test against Australia due to having picked up an injury. This means that Jonathon Davies, who scored a try in the match against Waratahs and played very impressively, could replace Tuilagi for the opening test. With fine performances from Alun Wyn Jones, Paul O’Connell and Sam Warburton, they are all in the Lions team for the first Test, whilst newcomer Simon Zebo is still in contention for a place among the starting team.

The British and Irish Lions’ team doctor, James Robson, commented on Jamie Roberts’ injury saying, “Jamie is a grave doubt for this week – there is no doubt about that. You only had to see how much discomfort he was in at the weekend. However, further assessment will be made later in the week as to his availability going forward. An accurate assessment of his availability for selection will take place on Wednesday, but at the moment I think he is doing very well.”
