After what turned out to be an extremely disappointing season for Manchester United, they are on the road to re-build from the previous season and be a contender for the title again. After assigning David Moyes as the new manager before this year’s season began, everything for the Red Devils went downhill. United even failed to book a place in Europe as they only managed to finish 7th in the Premier League, one position below a Europa League qualifying spot. However, the team who have been appalling for the past year hope a new manager will be able to turn the team around.
The biggest change at Manchester United has been the signing of Louis Van Gaal as their new manager on a three year contract. As soon as the World Cup 2014 has ended, Van Gaal is set to leave his role as the Netherlands manager in favour of managing the Red Devils in the Theatre of Dreams, Old Trafford. The Dutchman has already revealed that he would like to be one of the few managers to win the Premier League in his first season, as he did with Barcelona and Bayern Munich in 1998 and 2010 respectively. Only José Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti and Manuel Pellegrini have won the Premier League during their first season in the top English league.
Manchester United have also revealed that one of their legends, Ryan Giggs, who yesterday confirmed his retirement from playing the sport, will take up the role of being Van Gaal’s assistant manager. Giggs, who won an impressive 13 Premier League trophies in his career with the Red Devils, was the interim boss of Manchester United for the final 4 matches of the season after Moyes was dismissed. The Welsh footballing legend commented, “Today is a fantastic day for Manchester United. Louis van Gaal is a great appointment and I am delighted to be working with someone of his calibre.”
