The 35 year old American, Bubba Watson managed to claim his second Masters title in 3 years late on Sunday and claims that he used the famous ‘Bubba Golf’ technique to reign victorious. For a man who has never had a coach, he played so elegantly and majestic at times in the Masters 2014 tournament and that was proven when everyone knew the tournament was won by the 17th hole on Sunday. Watson had a three stroke lead ahead of Jordan Spieth playing the 17th hole and he managed to keep his cool to claim the green jacket and win by 3 strokes.
‘Bubba Golf’ is Watson’s own way of playing as he takes the sport shot by shot and uses his natural talent and imagination to guide his way around the Augusta National course. His play was free flowing and beautiful from the start of the tournament to the finish and with his combination of a deadly swing and top putting ability, he was unstoppable. In the past 12 years, the left handed golfers have really shone at the Masters as it has been won 6 times by lefties in that time; Mike Weir won in 2003, Phil Mickelson in 2004, 2006, 2010 and Bubba Watson won in 2012 and the Masters 2014.
The Masters 2014 champion, Bubba Watson commented, “You know, I do everything my way. I learned the game my way. I figured it out my way. So it just takes me a little bit longer with the mental focus and drive to get back to where I am today.” He continued, “You have to play your swing. That’s what I’d tell anybody – I do what it takes to make the score. I don’t care how pretty it is; I don’t care if it’s ugly; I don’t care if it’s out of the woods. I just want to make a score. Lucky for me, I’ve done it a couple times around this place.”
