Memorial Tournament disappointment for Woods

Matt Kuchar wins the Memorial Tournament after both Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy failed to finish high up the table. Kuchar showed the PGA Tour fans what he can do against Kevin Chappell as he putted a 20 foot birdie on the final hole of the tournament to seal the victory. Whilst Kuchar was dominating the Memorial Tournament, Woods and McIlroy were far from impressing finishing 8 over and 6 over respectively. Brian Davis and Justin Rose were the best Europeans doing England proud finishing in joint 8th place.

After the tournament, the Memorial Tournament winner looked towards his future, “There are a couple of things I thought were missing from my pedigree, my golf history. A major championship is on the list, and a multiple-win season was on the list. That’s something that at the beginning of the year when I set goals. And making the Presidents Cup team was on the list.” Kuchar also commented on his present win, “This is some amazing feeling. This stuff never gets old. The real treat is my wife and my kids running out here, it is a special feeling. It got scary at the end though.”

Whilst the Memorial Tournament was being played in Ohio, the Nordea Masters was held on the same weekend in Stockholm, Sweden. Mikko Ilonen claimed his first European Tour victory in over 6 years this weekend when he defeated Jonas Blixt. The Swedish Blixt would have been difficult to defeat in this tournament as he would have had the home crowd behind him, but Ilonen managed to keep his cool and win by 3 strokes. Last month’s Wentworth Champion, Matteo Manassero was five shots behind finishing joint 4th with Thomas Bjorn, Rikard Karlberg and Alex Noren.

After the Nordea Masters Mikko Ilonen stated, “I slept brilliant. I was pretty tired after yesterday. Yesterday was the toughest day of them all I think. I could feel a lot of support from Finland, especially today. Playing with Alex Noren in the last group in front of the local fans, it feels pretty special.”
