Paul Carberry had his hopes of a return to Cheltenham dashed this week just days prior to being given a clean bill of health. The forty one year old Jockey has been out of the saddle following a break to his leg last year, but was hoping to be given the green light for the festival in March.
Unfortunately in a warm up ride out Paul Carberry has taken a fall and sustained a second fracture to his recovering leg. The break means that there is no way he will be fit to ride in the biggest meet of the National Hunt calendar.
Speaking of his misfortune the talented Jockey said that he was due to See a specialist at the end of this month. His hopes were that he would be given a clean bill of health so that he could ride again freely with the Cheltenham Festival in mind.
Carberry admitted that he has been riding for a while and that he was happy with his own progress, he felt that a comeback was imminent. Clearly that just isn’t meant to be.
He broke his leg when he was out riding last Friday. His horse became spooked, went down and when Carberry landed his leg just gave way. The break is in a different place that it was last time but it is clear there must be some weakness there as it is in the same leg.
Understandably disappointed the Irish star commented on what’s next:
“I’ll see the specialist later on, but I’d say this will set us back a couple of months, which is disappointing.”
