Most Formula 1 fans will remember the Bahrain Grand Prix that took place in April for many reasons, including Jenson Button having a small row with team-mate Sergio Perez during the race and how Sebastian Vettel dominated to win the race. But most people remembered it due to their shock at the fantastic performance Paul di Resta put in. Scotsman Paul di Resta has never really been in contention to finish on a podium in any recent Grand Prix’s, but his performance at the Bahrain Grand Prix shocked everyone as he finished fourth, just missing out on a podium finish.
Former F1 driver Allan McNish noticed the Scottish talent and said he could be a Formula 1 World Champion in the future. “Paul di Resta was driving like the old Jackie Stewart. It was the ‘looking as if you’re driving slow but actually driving very fast’ approach. If someone puts him in the right car, he can fight for the world title. That opportunity of getting in the right car, to be able to do it, is probably going to be the hard part to achieve. But it’s performances like in Bahrain that will put his name in the frame for some of the seats that might be coming up at the end of the season.”
Paul di Resta was on form during the Bahrain Grand Prix, being in the top three places for most of the race and even taking the lead at one point. Unfortunately, with only 5 laps to go he was overtaken by Romain Grosjean of Lotus, which knocked him out of the top 3 where he stayed in fourth position, and finished a mere 2 seconds behind 3rd place, marginally missing out of a podium finish. Paul di Resta is currently 8th in the drivers standing on 20 points sitting ahead of large names in the sport such as Jenson Button and Nico Rosberg.
