Pineau De Re will run again before the Grand National at Aintree, although that is unlikely to be in his usual race at the Cheltenham Festival in March.
Although Pineau De Re may not be seen at Cheltenham he will be making a run over hurdles in the Pertemps qualifier at Chepstow in February.
Trainer Dr Richard Newland is making plans so that the twelve year old is ready for Aintree and has spoken of the horse and his current form:
“Pineau De Re is very well and we have just given him a mini-break but he is back in full work now. He will run at the end of February in a Pertemps qualifier at Chepstow, but he probably won’t get entered in the final at Cheltenham this season. He will definitely be trained for the National and hopefully he will get in on a more realistic mark this year.”
The 2014 Grand National winner has had a spectacular rollercoaster of a career, but has proven that he certainly has what it takes to be a winner on several occasions. Hopefully this season will be a good one for the bay gelding.
Speaking of his horse’s most recent win in December last year Newland added:
“It gave me a huge amount of satisfaction seeing him win at Carlisle. When you get good horses you hope to get them back, and we know that historically National winners find it difficult to win afterwards. He has come out of that race very well and, for whatever reason, he has got his mojo back.”
