The Premier League fixtures for the season which will begin later this year have been announced and it looks to be a very exciting opening weekend. Whilst there are no matches that would jump off the page for being a clash of the big teams, the newly promoted teams from the Championship are certainly in for a difficult start. Most of the teams that are considered to be title challenging teams haven’t been given difficult fixtures at all, playing either a newly promoted team, or a team that finished low in the table last season.
The winners of the Championship last season, Leicester City do have one of the hardest opening Premier League fixtures as they are set to play against Everton. Leicester will be playing at home, but Everton proved that they are a deadly side last season by qualifying for the Europa League and they will look to improve even more this season. The play-off winners, Queens Park Rangers will play at home to Hull City, whilst Chelsea have been given a gift for their opening match as they will play against Burnley, who finished second in the Championship last season.
Chelsea are set to be one of the favourites to win the title next season as José Mourinho has settled in well after his first season and has already been busy in the transfer market. The Blues have managed to recruit former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fàbregas before the opening Premier League fixtures begin; they are also close to sealing a deal with Diego Costa, Atlético Madrid’s highest goal-scorer last season.
The defending Champions, Manchester City will be looking for a victory in the opening Premier League fixtures as they will play against Newcastle United, arguably the most disappointing side last season. Another disappointing team last season, Manchester United will play against Swansea, but Louis van Gaal will be looking to improve the Red Devils and get them back to winning ways. There will also be an open day derby as the two midlands sides Aston Villa and Stoke City are set to clash at the Britannia Stadium.
