Richard Hobson has plans for Allysson Monterg after what he believes was a pleasing run at Cheltenham racecourse on New Year’s Day. The six year old bay gelding will face Cheltenham racecourse again before March in order to give him some experience on the track.
Richard Hobson is on target to for fill the owners of Allysson Monterg’s wishes. Owner Mr D W Fox has expressed that he wishes to have a runner in the festival this March.
Speaking of the six year old and his run at Cheltenham, Richard said that he was chuffed to bits with how he performed. He went on to say that he would have gone on for a maiden with him rather than aiming for Cheltenham. It was the decision of the owners to push for Cheltenham.
Allysson Monterg isn’t as experienced as Hobson would probably like and surprised everyone when he ran like he did. Richard said that he knew the horse looked well and assumed that he would finish in the first four but he had no expectations for him to do as well as he did. His outing at Cheltenham in the New Year was only his second run over hurdles.
Hobson believes that the best is yet to come from Allysson Monterg, he also insists that followers will get to witness the horse at his best in about 18 months. The horse could become a very decent chaser, although it is important that the bay gelding isn’t rushed during this time.
Speaking of what is next for Allysson Monterg, Richard Hobson outlines his plans:
“He will probably head back to Cheltenham for the Grade Two at the end of the month. It would be good to win a maiden with him, but the owner wants a runner at the Festival and I would rather give him another run around there for the experience. He has got lots of stamina and if he is good enough to compete there, then we would look at the Albert Bartlett.”
