Rory Mcllroy will be a formidable contestant in this week’s Wentworth BMW PGA Championships. The 26 year old, PGA and European member, has spoken out about his dedication to his sport, and how he intends to be the greatest golfer of his generation. Mcllroy, was recently crowned, Golfer of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year at the European Tour Awards.
It is undeniable that Rory Mcllroy is on a roll following his third win of the season on Sunday, at the Wells Fargo Classic, on the PGA tour. The talented Irish contestant is playing well this year and claims that his good form is here to stay. In an interview conducted following his win last weekend, Mcllroy made a statement in an effort to taunt his rivals:
“I think I’m pretty close to playing my best golf. I’m definitely able to feel more equipped to win now.”
Rory Mcllroy has every intention of playing golf until he turns 40. He expressed in interview that he aims to be playing for another 14 years, or at least until he is no longer able to play to the best of his ability. In terms of a sportsman’s retirement, 40 would be a great age. At 40 years of age Mcllroy would have had ample time to secure his legend status.
When discussing Fellow Golfer, and 14 time champion, Tiger Woods, Mcllroy admits he has tough footsteps to follow if he wants to be the best:
“I’ll never be able to do for golf what Tiger did. He was a phenomenon, he brought so many more people into the game because of his background and how he started on tour.”
Despite his feelings on the legend it is difficult not to compare the two, both have faced challenges in reference to their private lives. But it is not Mcllroy’s private life that will be in the limelight at the moment, for the next few days at least all eyes will be on his Golf.
