Russell Knox has outshone Rory McIlroy, amongst others, in Shanghai this week as he moves into second place at the WGC-HSBC Champions event. McIlroy is said to be struggling due to food poisoning. Northern Ireland’s golfing legend is now ten behind Kevin Kisner who tops the board with an impressive fourteen under par.
Russell Knox is in second with twelve under par, Branden Grace is currently third with ten under followed closely by American Patrick Reed. Englishman Matthew Fitzpatrick is ranking higher than both Rory McIlroy, and Jordan Spieth who also seems to be struggling this week.
Russell Knox has made a phenomenal start considering he is such a late entrant. The Scottish Professional found out he would be making his WGC debut when he was playing in the CIMB Classic last Friday.
The thirty year old has paid tribute to his wife who has made all of the arrangements enabling him to participate in Shanghai. She has made arrangements concerning travel, filled out the relevant paperwork and even had to stand in as caddy at the last minute:
“My wife was a superstar and she filled out all the forms for us,While we were playing on Friday she took all the stuff to the Chinese embassy in Kuala Lumpur and had it processed. We flew here on Tuesday morning but my caddie didn’t have proof of accommodation so he was a day behind us. So when we got here my wife caddied for me. We got a stand bag from the pro here and chucked the clubs in and played the quickest practice round ever and she complained heavily for the last nine holes.”
