Sachin Tendulkar has begun his 200th and final test for India as the legend cricketer known world-wide will retire from his beloved sport after playing professional cricket for 24 years. It was announced a few weeks ago that he was going to retire and he received an enormous amount of praise from fellow sportspeople and famous figures for being one of the best cricketers to have ever lived. The 200th Test is in a two match series between India and the West Indies, which India already leads 1-0 and Tendulkar will play for a final time in the second test match.
The legendary Indian cricket star will certainly be looking for a victory against the West Indies in order to go out with a bang, but no matter what happens, it will be a day to never forget for the cricket world. The 40 year old is a record run-scorer in Tests and one-day internationals and has scored 100 international centuries in addition to helping India win the 2011 Cricket World Cup. Only 5,000 tickets of the 33,000 available for Sachin Tendulkar’s final match were up for the general public as most tickets were dedicated to politicians, celebrities, former players and corporate guests.
Day One of the 200th test has come to an end as India bowled the West Indies all out for 182 and has hit an impressive 157-2 themselves with Sachin Tendulkar currently on 38 runs not out and ready to continue tomorrow. West Indies captain Darren Sammy commented before the test, “From the moment we heard it is going to be his last Test in Mumbai, all the bowlers were quite motivated. There is a chance to go down in history. The last stroke he would play in any cricket match and your name could go down in there.”
