The excitement has been building for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics and Team GB has a very promising squad going into the tournament, which includes the injury worried Chemmy Alcott. The three-time Winter Olympian Alcott, is the biggest name coming out of the team and she is in all of the headlines as she is currently unable to prove that she will be fully fit for the Games. After breaking her leg for the third time in August, there was speculation about whether she would be fit for the Sochi 2014, but she has managed to convince the organisers that she will be fit to contend.
The Funding body for the Team GB’s Sochi 2014 campaign, UK Sport have contributed a total amount of £13.45million and have set their sights on winning at least three medals of any colour. Yet, the body who funds the squad have also revealed that there is a serious potential of the Great British team winning up to seven medals, which would beat their previous best of four medals at Chamonix in 1924. Team GB are expected to be most successful in Para-alpine skiing (2-5 medals), Ski & Snowboarding (1-2 medals) and Curling (1-2 medals).
The captain of the British women’s curling team for Sochi 2014, who are a serious threat to other countries being the defending world champions, Eve Muirhead commented, “Team GB are in a great spot for Sochi 2014. We’ve got so many medal hopefuls going in. I’ve got three young girls behind me who are great. We’ve put in so much work and they have the same goal as me – get that Olympic medal. It’s the only medal I’m missing.” Sochi 2014 begins next month on 7th February and continues through until 23rd February 2014.
