Stuart Broad silences his critics in Australia

England’s main man and key bowler, Stuart Broad had silenced his critics in a wonderful performance in the opening day of the winter Ashes, which saw him capture 5 wickets. Before the Ashes actually begun, the local newspaper in Australia, the ‘Courier Mail’ had put Stuart Broad on their front page ripping him and telling the Australian fans to ignore him when he arrives at The Gabba. This came after Broad’s  non-walk at Trent Bridge last summer, but the criticism that came from the crowds and press, only made Broad perform even better.

Every time the game had involved Stuart Broad, including when bowling, the crowd booed him and even started chanting inappropriate chants towards the Englishman. However, instead of all of those things knocking his confidence, it only made him want to completely dominate Australia and perform at the top of his game for England, which he ended up doing. Broad made an impact straight away capturing the first 4 wickets of the match bowling out Chris Rogers, David Warner, Shane Watson and Captain Michael Clarke; 2 more wickets from England left the score at 132-6.

However, with the score at 132-6 and it looking like it was going to be an easy day for England, Australia’s Brad Haddin and Mitchell Johnson stepped up with a strong partnership that gave them a fighting chance. Haddin and Johnson partnered each other wonderfully to hit 114 runs to put Australia back into the game after the first day, saving what was turning out to be a disaster start for the hosts. Nevertheless, guess who it was to bowl Johnson out and break their partnership? None other than Stuart Broad, who recorded his fifth wicket of the day.

Now the score is 273-8 after 90 overs, which puts England in an ideal position to take advantage over the next few days to take an early lead in the Ashes. If England continues to play the way they are, they are certain to win the first test of the Ashes to give them a 1-0 lead going into the last 4 tests of the series.
