Stuart Pearce leaves England U-21

England U-21 coach, Stuart Pearce, will not be renewing his contract at the end of the month after being in charge of the young international team for six years now. Stuart Pearce and his England U-21 players have been under criticism recently for not qualifying for the European Under-21 Championships. In fact, the team played so poorly they lost every single qualifying match against Italy, Norway and the hosts Israel, therefore finished bottom of the table with no points.

David Bernstein, an FA Chairman, commented, “I’d like to thank Stuart Pearce for his hard work. Nobody can doubt his commitment to the job throughout his time as Under-21 coach. He has done extremely well in qualifying for finals tournaments, but after the disappointment of the past two tournaments, we believe it is time to change coach. On behalf of everyone at the FA I’d like to wish Stuart well for the future.”

Stuart Pearce’s successor yet to be decided

The FA have not yet announced who they have in mind to replace Stuart Pearce, but the former Manchester City manager did come extremely close to having great triumphs with the teams. Pearce first started off as a part-time England U-21 manager, but when he managed to get his side to the European Under-21 Championships semi-finals in June 2007, the FA gave him the full job in July. 2 years later in June 2009, Stuart Pearce led England U-21s to even more success taking them a step further to the final; unfortunately, they lost to Germany.

After that year, England’s form quickly spiralled down getting knocked out of the 2011 European Championships in the Group stages. It was a similar story a couple years later when England U-21s finished pointless in the Group stages and not qualifying leading to Stuart Pearce’s contract not being renewed. Despite getting knocked out this year in the Group stages, goalkeeper Jack Butland revealed that he and his team-mates wanted Stuart Pearce to stay as manager.
