Thierry Henry announces retirement

Former Arsenal and French international striker, who is also known as a Premier League legend, Thierry Henry has officially announced his retirement from football and will seek a job in a media role. The Frenchman is reportedly going to be working with Sky Sports now he is retired, after he was a pundit for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil for BBC. The 37 year old is most famous for his time with Premier League side Arsenal and being a part of the side known as the ‘Invincibles’, but he also played for Monaco, Juventus, Barcelona and the French international team.

Thierry Henry is set to work with Sky Sports

The French legend Thierry Henry began his 20-year professional footballing career in 1994 when he made his first appearance for French side AS Monaco. Henry earned 105 caps for Monaco and helped them to win the Ligue 1 title in 1997 before leaving and joining Italian side Juventus in 1999, after winning the World Cup with France in 1998. After only 16 games with Juve, Henry moved to Arsenal to play under Arsene Wenger. Straight away, the fans fell in love with Thierry Henry, as his love and passion for the London club was made clear to them.

Thierry Henry managed to win 2 Premier League titles and was victorious in the FA Cup on 3 separate occasions during his 8 year stint with Arsenal. In 2007, he left the Gunners to join Spanish giants Barcelona, where he managed to win the league, the cup and the Champions League treble in 2009. In 2010, the Frenchman joined MLS side New York Red Bulls, where he enjoyed 4 seasons in America. However, in 2012 he returned to Arsenal on loan playing for only 4 games but scored 2 goals, including the winner against Leeds in the third round of the FA Cup.

Thierry Henry, the fourth highest Premier League goal scorer with a total of 175 goals, commented on his career, “It has been an incredible journey. I would like to thank all the fans, team-mates and individuals involved with AS Monaco, Juventus, Arsenal, Barcelona, the New York Red Bulls and of course the French national team that have made my time in the game so special. I have had some amazing memories and a wonderful experience. I hope you have enjoyed watching as much as I have enjoyed taking part. See you on the other side.”
