Transfer Gossip and news so far – 9th June

Though the transfer window officially starts on 1st July, out of contract players can confirm deals before then. Most transfer news is as yet unconfirmed, but some exciting prospects lie ahead should the rumours come to fruition.

Big moves ahead at start of transfer window

Some deals have already been confirmed in the past week or so, since the start of June. Most of the deals agreed so far have been for lower tier teams, with people moving on free transfers. Midfielder James Milner is a notable exception, having moved from Manchester City to Liverpool on a free transfer. This comes after a successful career at City, following his £26m move from Birmingham side Aston Villa in 2010. Since then he has made 125 appearances for the club, scoring 18 goals.

From the dark side of transfer rumours, it is reported that Juventus, Serie A champions and silver medal winners of the Champions League, are preparing to offer £10m for Manchester United striker Robin Van Persie. After his first season at Old Trafford in 2012, when he helped United on their way to the title, the Holland international has suffered a loss of form and numerous injuries. A £200m Louis Van Gaal war chest means big plans for the club, which could mean that Van Persie becomes surplus to requirements.

One of the other big transfer rumours for the Premier League also concerns Manchester United. They are reported to have already signed a deal with Napoli to sign striker Gonzalo Higuain. This marks a move by Van Gaal to upgrade his front line after a low-scoring season. The deal is thought to be worth around £30m.

Also getting in on the action is London side Arsenal. The FA Cup champions are looking to offload players and look for an overturn, bringing in fresh faces. Sevilla ace Grzegorz Krychowiak is on the list of targets, as he has a £21m release clause. However, Louis Van Gaal is also gunning for the Polish International. Arsene Wenger is looking to ship out Lucas Podolski, Yaya Sanogo and Joel Campbell. This would free up the cash for Wenger’s transfer targets – since they are also looking to sign Jackson Martinez – F.C Porto’s Colombian striker who has scored 67 goals in 90 appearances.
