Transfer window to get more and more exciting

The football transfer window officially opens at 12am tomorrow morning, but it is already heating up as several large bids have been placed and in some cases accepted. Among the biggest spenders are Manchester United, who have already attracted much media attention with their large budget.

Manchester United bid for Sergio Ramos transfer

The Real Madrid defending star was the subject of a £28.6m bid from United, as Louis van Gaal tries to bring in some defensive reinforcements to help his team improve on last season’s fourth-place Premier League finish. This comes after Madrid failed to offer an extension on his contract, which expires in 2017. After joining the Spanish side in 2005, Ramos has made 445 appearances in a Real Madrid shirt. He would be one of the biggest names to move during the 2015 transfer window if the deal was to go through.

Yesterday, a £10m deal was confirmed involving Petr Cech, who has now moved from Chelsea to fellow London club Arsenal after a long, fruitful career. In a letter to fans, he expressed that he thought he would retire from football at the club, but after losing his place to Thibaut Courtois, he added, “Life doesn’t always turn out the way you think it will.”

Liverpool have been very active so far – Attacking midfielder/ striker Roberto Firmino will be joining for a fee understood to be £21.3m. The Brazilian international will make the transfer from Hoffenheim. The exciting young attacker will compliment Daniel Sturridge’s intelligent movement and need for the ball at his feet, and comes with a considerable pedigree of four years of Bundesliga experience, despite his being just 23 years of age.

Despite his stellar season and massive interest from other clubs, Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke remains at the Birmingham club as yet, as Tim Sherwood is refusing to relinquish his grip on the star striker unless his £32.5m release clause is met. Tottenham and Liverpool are both looking to make this transfer, with spurs offering up Emmanuel Adebayor as part of their bid.
