Victoria Pendleton has been working hard towards competing in this year’s Cheltenham Festival. At the end of last month Pendleton narrowly missed out on a win in a point-to-point race riding Pacha Du Polder.
In the run up to the Point to Point Pacha Du Polder was looked after by Chloe Roddick, however, now that the Cheltenham festival is just weeks away Paul Nicholls has taken charge of the bay gelding. Nicholls will have to prepare the horse for the St James’s Place Foxhunter Chase, where he is set to be ridden by dual Olympic cycling champion Victoria Pendleton.
There is some debate over whether or not Pacha Du Polder needs to run again before the festival. And speaking of the decisions that have to made Nicholls said:
“I’ve got to work out where to go with him as he had quite a hard race. I’ve got to find a hunter chase but I don’t know where, there are two or three options. He needs to come back to himself, though, as he had quite a tough race and was not 100 per cent ready.”
“He could go straight to Cheltenham as he always goes well fresh, it would be good for Victoria to have a ride somewhere but I’ve not made any plans yet.”
Pacha Du Polder is back in Nicholls’ yard and under his care which has been the plan all along. Although if things hadn’t gone quite so well for Victoria Pendleton in the point-to-point then her ride would have remained with Chloe Roddick racing point-to-points.
If Pacha Du Polder is to be ready for a Hunters chase he will need to be with Nicholls for at least fourteen days.
