Wales on target for Euro 2016

Wales only need one point to qualify for Euro 2016. The home team were left frustrated in Cardiff yesterday as their draw in the qualifier against Israel failed to provide them with the elusive point that would guarantee Wales a spot in the 2016 tournament.

Wales making international history

Wales still have two further fixtures in which to secure the point that they need to make the line-up for 2016. The national squad could make history, as they are set to enter their first international tournament since 1958!

The team are due to play away against Bosnia-Herzegovina next month and then their final fixture is at home verses Andorra.

If Israel go on to win against Cyprus and Belgium they will knock Wales out of the top two but only if Wales fail to win at either of their next two games. Wales are currently top of board but lead by just one point, an extra point would prevent any other group B competitors from being able to knock them out of the top two. Both of the top two teams will go on to play in Euro 2016.

Despite the draw against Israel Wales’ manager, Chris Coleman, strongly believes that his team will qualify after the next two fixtures:

“It’s a shame for our supporters who wanted to celebrate but it (qualification) is coming, the expectation was there to get us over the line but now we have to wait that little bit longer. It wasn’t the party everyone wanted.”

Speaking of his disappointment Coleman went on to talk about the events of the game against Israel. Referring to the penalty that he believes his team should have been granted in the 66th minute of the game, he said:

“There is a shade of disappointment, but I couldn’t ask for any more from the players, we had all the possession and chances but Israel came for a point and not to get beaten. We needed to score early and in that first 20 minutes we were right on top. When you don’t score it can sometimes come back to haunt you, but a point is important.”
